Why a Round Sparkles Most

A round brilliant has 57 or 58 facets laid out so that light entering the top bounces off the lower facets and comes straight back to your eye. No other shape is designed so closely around light return, which is why it looks so bright. For a round, the quality of the cut matters more than anything else.

  • 1 ct: about 6.4 to 6.5 mm across
  • 1.5 ct: about 7.4 mm
  • 2 ct: about 8.1 mm
  • 3 ct: about 9.3 mm

Four Prongs or Six?

Four prongs show more of the diamond and give the stone a slightly squarer look. Six prongs hold it more securely and keep the outline perfectly round. A hidden halo adds a line of small diamonds under the centre that shows from the side, and a cathedral setting lifts the stone on arches for a taller profile.

Round Lab Diamond or Round Moissanite?
