Oval Cut Moissanite Engagement Rings

An oval stone has the sparkle of a round brilliant in a longer outline that flatters the finger. Our oval moissanite rings range from classic solitaires and hidden halos to bezel, three stone and rose cut designs, each made to order in your size.

Oval Proportions: How Long Is Right?

Ovals are described by their length-to-width ratio. Around 1.35 to 1.45 is the classic look. Above about 1.5 the stone reads long and slender, which we call an elongated oval. Our elongated designs, such as the 3 CT elongated oval solitaire, suit long fingers, while a classic ratio balances well on most hands. Each listing gives the length and width in millimetres, so you can divide one by the other to find the ratio.

The Bowtie, and Why It Is Normal

Most ovals show a darker band across the middle, called a bowtie, where light leaves the stone instead of reflecting back to your eye. It shifts as the ring moves and is part of the oval's character. It usually looks stronger in a still photo than on a moving hand.

Settings That Suit an Oval

  • Four claws keep the outline open and let in the most light.
  • A hidden halo adds a ring of small stones under the oval that sparkles from the side without changing the outline.
  • A bezel or half bezel protects the edge; our half bezel 2 CT oval leaves the sides open to the light.
  • Three stone designs pair the oval with round or marquise side stones.
  • An oval rose cut has a flat base and large facets for a soft, vintage glow.

Common Questions

What makes an oval elongated?

We call an oval elongated when its length is more than about 1.5 times its width. Divide the length by the width given on the listing to find the ratio.

Does an oval look bigger than a round of the same carat?

Usually, yes. An oval spreads its weight over a longer face, so it covers more of the finger than a round stone of the same carat size.

Can an oval be set east-west?

Yes. Turning the oval across the finger gives a modern look. Message us with the design you like and we will confirm whether it can be made east-west and the price.

Do you make colored oval moissanite rings?

Yes. Alongside colorless stones we make ovals in colored moissanite such as green, cyan blue and grey.
