Pear Lab Grown Diamond Engagement Rings

A pear joins a rounded end and a single point, like a teardrop. It lengthens the finger, looks large for its weight and has a graceful, slightly unexpected look. Our pear lab grown diamond rings are made to order in 925 silver, 10K, 14K or 18K gold, or platinum.

Finding a Shape You Love

Pears vary more than most shapes. A length-to-width ratio of about 1.45 to 1.75 covers the classic range: lower looks fuller and rounder, higher looks slim and elegant. Good symmetry matters too; the two sides should mirror each other and the rounded end should form a smooth arc.

The Point and the Bow-Tie

The single point is the most delicate part of a pear, so it is held by a V-shaped prong that wraps the tip. Like ovals and marquises, pears can show a darker bow-tie across the middle; a faint one is normal. The photos and video on each listing show both.

How Big Each Carat Looks

As a guide, a 1 ct pear is about 8 x 5 mm, a 2 ct about 10 x 6.5 mm and a 3 ct about 11.5 x 7.5 mm. Its length makes it look larger on the hand than a round of the same weight.

Point Up or Point Down?

Traditionally the point faces your fingertip, which lengthens the hand. Point toward the wrist is a softer, less common look; if you want it, contact us before ordering. For the shape in moissanite, including champagne and colored pears, see pear moissanite engagement rings.

Common Questions

Which way should a pear point?

Usually toward the fingertip, which makes the hand look longer. Pointing toward the wrist is less common but equally valid.

What ratio is best for a pear?

Most people choose about 1.50 to 1.70. Lower ratios look fuller; higher ones look slimmer.

Is the point of a pear fragile?

Diamond is very hard, but a point can chip from a hard knock. A V-shaped prong covers the tip to protect it.

How big is a 1 carat pear?

About 8 x 5 mm, depending on its ratio.

How long does it take?

Each ring is made to order in 8 to 10 business days, then free standard shipping takes 8 to 20 business days, or express 6 to 9 business days.
