Asscher Cut Lab Grown Diamond Engagement Rings

The Asscher is a square step cut with trimmed corners, giving an octagonal outline and a windmill pattern of facets that draws the eye to the centre. It has a strong Art Deco character. Our Asscher lab grown diamond rings are made to order in 925 silver, 10K, 14K or 18K gold, or platinum.

A Square Step Cut

The Asscher was first cut in Amsterdam in the early 1900s and became a favourite of the Art Deco era. It has a high crown, a small table and a deep pavilion, and its step facets line up to form concentric squares, the windmill or hall-of-mirrors effect you see looking straight down.

Clarity Shows, So It Rewards a Clean Stone

Step cuts let you see deep into the diamond, so clarity matters more than in brilliant shapes. Our Asscher listings describe the centre stones as E-F color and VVS clarity, which keeps the windmill pattern crisp.

Size from the Top

Because an Asscher is deep, it looks smaller from above than a princess of the same weight. As a guide, 1 ct is about 5.5 mm square, 2 ct about 7 mm and 3 ct about 8 mm. A hidden halo or pavé band adds presence without changing the clean centre.

Asscher, Emerald or Princess?

An emerald cut is the rectangular version of the same step cut. A princess cut is also square but sparkles like a brilliant. For the Asscher shape in moissanite, see Asscher cut moissanite rings.
