Colored Lab Grown Diamond Engagement Rings

Fancy colour lab grown diamonds in blue, pink, yellow and green, set in the same sixty engagement ring designs as our colourless range. Each ring is made to order from 1 to 10 carats in sterling silver, gold or platinum, and the centre stone comes with its IGI grading report.

Four Colours, Sixty Designs

This collection holds 240 engagement rings: sixty designs, each offered with a fancy intense blue, pink, yellow or green lab grown diamond centre. The setting, the accents and the price are the same in every colour, so the easiest way to choose is to settle on a design first and then compare its four colour pages. The same designs are also made with a colourless centre in our lab grown diamond engagement rings.

How a Lab Grown Diamond Gets Its Colour

In mined diamonds only a small fraction of stones show a fancy colour, which is why natural blues and pinks are among the most expensive gems in the world. In the lab the same colour causes can be produced on purpose. Blue comes from a trace of boron in the crystal, the element that colours the Hope diamond. Yellow comes from nitrogen, the same cause as a natural canary diamond. Pink and green are produced by colour centres in the crystal, created in a controlled step after growth, matching the kind of colour centres found in natural pink and green diamonds. Whichever colour you choose, the stone is still diamond: crystal carbon with a hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale.

Each centre stone is graded Fancy Intense, a strong and even colour on the fancy colour scale, with VVS1 to VVS2 clarity. The IGI report that comes with the ring records the colour grade, the growth method and any treatment used.

Choosing the Shape and Setting

Oval is the most common shape across the sixty designs, followed by round, emerald, princess, pear, radiant, marquise, hexagon and cushion. Settings range from plain solitaires and pavé bands to three stone, hidden halo, twisted, split shank, cathedral and vintage designs, most with small white lab grown diamond accents. Elongated shapes such as oval, pear and marquise show more colour across the finger, while cushion and radiant cuts hold colour in their depth, so they look slightly more saturated than a round brilliant of the same grade.

Which Metal for Which Colour

White gold and platinum keep every colour clean and cool and give the strongest contrast. Yellow gold deepens blue and green and makes yellow richer. Rose gold warms pink into a deeper rose and gives yellow an apricot tone. Every ring is offered in 925 sterling silver, 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, white or rose, or platinum; yellow and rose on silver and platinum are plated finishes, and 14K gold or platinum is the practical choice for a ring worn every day.

Prices

A 1 carat centre starts at $647.49 in 925 sterling silver, $1,147.49 in 10K gold, $1,347.49 in 14K gold, $1,547.49 in 18K gold and $1,477.49 in platinum. Each extra carat adds $675 whichever metal you choose, and all four colours are priced the same, so the price depends only on the carat weight and the metal. Every product page shows the current price for each option, and our lab grown diamond price guide compares colourless and coloured stones side by side.

Coloured Diamond or Coloured Moissanite?

A coloured lab grown diamond gives the classic diamond look in a rare colour, with the highest hardness of any gem. Our coloured moissanite engagement rings offer blue, green, champagne and grey tints at a lower price per carat, with more rainbow fire. The coloured moissanite guide explains the difference.

Common Questions

Are coloured lab grown diamonds real diamonds?

Yes. A coloured lab grown diamond is crystal carbon, exactly like a colourless one, with the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale. The colour comes from trace elements or colour centres in the crystal, the same causes that colour natural diamonds.

How does a lab grown diamond get its colour?

Blue comes from a trace of boron in the crystal, yellow from nitrogen, and pink and green from colour centres created in a controlled step after growth. These are the same colour causes found in natural fancy colour diamonds. The IGI report for each stone records the growth method and any treatment.

What does Fancy Intense mean?

Fancy Intense is a saturation grade on the fancy colour scale, which runs from Faint and Very Light through Fancy Light and Fancy up to Fancy Intense and Fancy Vivid. Our centre stones are graded Fancy Intense, a strong, clearly visible colour that still shows plenty of sparkle.

Will the colour fade?

No. Blue from boron and yellow from nitrogen are part of the crystal itself, and the colour centres that give pink and green are stable in everyday wear and normal cleaning. The one thing to avoid is very high heat during a repair, so tell any jeweller who resizes the ring later that the diamond is a coloured lab grown stone. We size the ring before it leaves us.

Can I have the same design in a different colour?

Yes. Every design in this collection is offered in blue, pink, yellow and green, each on its own page, and in a colourless lab grown diamond in our main engagement ring collection. The setting and the price are the same in each colour.

Which metal suits which colour?

White gold and platinum give the cleanest contrast for every colour. Yellow gold deepens blue and green and enriches yellow. Rose gold suits pink best and gives yellow a warm apricot tone. Each product page shows the ring in yellow, white and rose so you can compare.

Does the ring come with an IGI report?

Yes. The centre diamond comes with its own IGI grading report, which records the carat weight, colour grade, clarity, measurements, the growth method and any post-growth treatment. Every ring also comes with a Bhumi Gems certificate of authenticity stating the stone, carat and metal.

How long will my ring take to arrive?

Crafting takes about 8 to 10 business days. Free standard shipping then usually takes 8 to 20 business days, or 6 to 9 business days with express delivery ($24.99).

Can I return a coloured diamond ring?

Yes, within 30 days of delivery if it is unworn and in its original packaging. For a change of mind you pay the return shipping and a 10% restocking fee applies. Resized, engraved and custom pieces are final sale.
